Acts 1:8

You Will Be Witnesses of Me In Jerusalem

And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him. And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son. And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him. (Genesis 17:23–27)

God’s covenant was with Abraham, yet everyone in his house was affected by the covenant. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8) When we allow the Spirit of God to operate freely within our lives, then are the people of our household blessed. Our household represents Jerusalem in this verse. The spiritual condition of our family members may actually depend on our obedience and submission to God’s Holy Spirit. One of the hardest places to maintain a witness for Christ is at home. Many of us have good reputations and good images in the eyes of the world and in the eyes of the public, but what do our family members see in us when you are at home. At home we let our hair down, and throw our feet up and we show who we really are. When we get tired, irritated and frustrated, home is the most likely place that we vent or let it out. Oftentimes those we live with receive the negative impact of these actions. My prayer today is that we may all be witnesses at home, so that those closest to us may be blessed in our blessings.
